In what Head Cross Country Coach Brandun Massingill said was a first in his illustrious career, and in what may be a first all-time for Hamilton’s storied cross-country program, the Lady Bulldogs outfitted two varsity teams last Friday for the season-opening Belton Invitational held at Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area and claimed the top two finishing spots among 13 1A through 4A teams.

MEET THE BULLDOGS: Scheduled
MEET THE LADY BULLDOGS: The Andrew Heers-led varsity Lady Bulldogs, above, are off to an 11-2 start. On Tuesday of last week in Llano, the Lady Dogs recoiled from a stinging 25-12 loss in the opening set to swat the host 3A Yellowjackets in three straight by scores of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-17. Carrying momentum into the Keene Invitational, the Lady Bulldogs earned straight-set victories over 4A opponents Benbrook and Venus and a two-set-to-one win over Abbott during pool play on Thursday. Though 4A Ferris upset Hamilton two games to one during the opening match on Saturday in Keene, the Lady Bulldogs returned to knock off the host school in two decisive sets and defeated Valley Mills two sets to one to claim a consolation match victory. Hamilton’s junior varsity squads combined forces in Keene and earned three consecutive pool play victories over Western Hills, Abbott and Venus on Thursday before dropping matches to both Keene and Hillsboro on Saturday. After posting a 5-1 record in the Keene Invitational, the varsity Lady Bulldogs were scheduled to host Bosqueville on Tuesday of this week before competing in another tournament in Bruceville-Eddy this Thursday and Saturday. Hamilton will face four opponents on Thursday, beginning with Milano at 10:20 a.m., followed by Bishop Reicher at 11:30, Bruceville-Eddy at 1:50 p.m. and Holland at 4:10. Saturday’s bracketology will be determined by Thursday’s pool play results. Next Tuesday, all three of Hamilton’s teams will host 3A McGregor, beginning with the JV Red at 4:30 p.m., followed by the JV Black at 5:30 and the varsity match at 6:30.
