Dear Editor, An amazing transformation has occurred at the Hamilton Public Library, thanks to the generous support of the citizens and the vision and work of the past and present HPL Boards and Director Nancy Diaz.
AUSTIN — Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar said state sales tax revenue totaled $3.57 billion in March, 5.9 percent more than in March 2022. The majority of March sales tax revenue is based on sales made in February and remitted to the agency in March.
To the Hamilton Herald-News: I recently read a letter to your editor from Joseph H. Mc-Gowen in which he refers to “our war on nature.” To me this is a most comprehensive analysis of how we came to be where we are today, having to deal with so many ongoing natural disasters, because of our treatment of our home, the Earth. He gives us a broader way of understanding what we commonly call “climate change,” a better context for understanding what we are dealing with now.

Dear Editor, For 10 years Huts for Mutts operated a sanctuary and spay/neuter services with the ultimate goal of Hamilton becoming no kill. The community proved to me that goal was too difficult. Sad fact that even with free spay/neuter vouchers and affordable services pets were considered disposable. Then Circle of Love became a welcomed addition to the community but sadly, for health reasons, they have closed. So now the animals have no one to speak for them. However, we might change that. Maybe a new generation could do that which the past generation failed~ If you are computer savvy. If you are a go-getter, a self-starter, an independent thinker, an intelligent, compassionate soul I’d like you to consider networking under our “umbrella” to earn Hamilton Pound Dogs a reprieve. I will allow you the use of our non-profit designation so the animals can be listed on Petfinder and Adopt-a-Pet. A young attitude is needed, one that can look at a problem and find new solutions. IT IS NOT EASY. They say there are rescues in the North and East that are actually taking in Southern dogs. A few were sent North for Circle of Love but before using this avenue again I want more research and if needed, a visit. We have some connections with transports that travel the entire US so if our networkers can find a safe, responsible destination—we will get the dogs there if I have to drive it/fly it myself.
Some major categories of poisons to be aware of for our four-legged friends are human food and medicine, household products, pest control products, lawn and garden care items, household plants and even flea and tick control items.
I think most people can tell a scam when they get that call or letter but I just would like to give a reminder. This past week we received a telephone call that we had won 4 million dollars from Publisher’s Clearing House. They sounded very professional, transferred us to the accountant, and told us to think about this wonderful gift and that after we got over our excitement, call them back to get things rolling. Ronnie and I decided to play them along a while and they just got nicer and nicer, Then we get the “you need to send a cashier’s check for $4,100 from your bank” to get the process rolling. They would immediately send $21,000 cash to us when they got that check. Well, we started quoting them the rules of PCH which are: they never call or write you if you are the winner because they want to surprise the winner & hand the winner a real check. Second, they never would ask for your email (which they did request). Finally, that PCH would never request money be sent to them for any reason. I then asked the gentlemen would he please tell me what prison he was calling from. Surprise! He hung up on me.
