The starting gun for the 2024 high school track and field season fired last Thursday in Hico, and Hamilton’s junior high athletes got their start on Monday in Tolar. The event in Hico served as more of an exhibition for Hamilton’s athletes who are coming directly out of other sports. Most competed in a limited number of events. This Thursday, Hamilton’s high school athletes will compete in the Tolar Rattler Relays. Field events will begin at approximately 3:30 p.m. The 3200-meter run will start at 3:45 p.m., followed by all other running events at 6:00. Hamilton’s junior high athletes will travel to Comanche next Monday with events set to begin at 3:30 p.m. Pictured, siblings Anna and Cuyler Pearcy, and the brother-sister duo of Madison and Morgan Henkes proved to be the 800-meter kingpins in Hico last Thursday. Sophomore Anna Pearcy (left) placed first in the varsity girls’ 800-meter run with a winning time of 2:25.16 and was trailed closely by senior Madison Henkes (right) with a time of 2:28.09. In the varsity boys’ division, senior Cuyler Pearcy (right) stamped a winning time of 2:04.61, followed by sophomore Morgan Henkes (left) in second with a time of 2:05.23.
