A graduate of the Living Hope Outreach program, Bucky Duncan found his way to a better life with the help of Pastor Ed Chapman and Hope House leaders who cared about his situation. Originally from Kopperl, Texas, he came to the Hope House in Hamilton because it is a place that provides help for men and women who suffer from substance abuse. There is a similar home for women in Gustine.
Led by Mike Matlock and Ed Salazar from Temple, Texas, Beacon Ministries is an outreach ministry to the homeless. The group hosted a revival outside the Hamilton Courthouse Saturday featuring speakers from all over the state, including business owner Anthony Powell from Cliffton, entomologist James Tracy from Temple and Rosales, who leads a prison ministry in Brownwood. Salazar set up his keyboard on the group’s portable stage and played worship music with vocals by Matlock. Music performances were given by the Fortenberry guitarist duo and a family from Brownwood. A free lunch, a prayer booth and Bible games with prizes for children were also part of the day’s activities with the military theme, “Behind Enemy Lines.”

Teams from across the U.S. arrived in Hamilton to compete as the 2026 World Series of Team Roping kicked off with qualifier rounds last weekend at the Circle T Arena. Friday’s competitors came from as far away as Los Osos, California and as nearby as Dublin or Stephenville, Texas. Some traveled from Arkansas, Idaho and New Mexico. All ropers were required to be 21 years old as of this calendar year in order to participate. The event also included vendors, such as ML Custom Silversmith and Onechiro Onsite Chiropractic.
Sip and learn at Hamilton Public Library next Thursday during the Steeped in Wellness, herbal tea class. The public is invited to this engaging and interactive herbal wellness program led by family herbalist Gayle Edwards of Gypsy Greens on Thursday, Jan. 29, at 5:15 p.m. in the Teague Community Room.
