Nine Hamilton High School track and field athletes punched a ticket to state after earning top two finishes during last week’s UIL Region II-2A Track and Field Championships. Senior Presley Long and junior Chaska Downs placed first and second, respectively, in the 3200-meter run. Long too will return to state in the 1600-meter run after placing first in the regional event in Springtown. Also making stately returns will be junior Alivia Eanes, who claimed regional gold in the 100-meter hurdles, and senior and multi-time state representative Anna Pearcy, who will return to Austin as the Region II-2A 800-meter champion. The Bulldogs will send a contingent of five athletes to Austin. Colton DeLaGarza qualified individually as the men’s regional 800-meter champion and helped both the regional silver-medalist and defending state-qualifying 4x200- and 4x400-meter relay teams earn state bound bus rided. Both relay teams set new school records Saturday in Springtown. DeLaGarza is joined by senior Pierce Summers and brothers Myles and Morgan Henkes on the 4x200-meter relay.
