The Hamilton Lady Bulldogs improved to 12-10 on the year and 4-3 in district with a statement 67-27 victory over the visiting Graford Lady Rabbits last Friday. The Lady Bulldogs opened District 11-2A competition back on Dec. 13 in Graford and inexplicably fell to the Lady Rabbits 54-47. Through the first round, Graford’s only loss was to still undefeated in district Lipan. Hico upended the Lady Rabbits in Hico on Tuesday of last week by a narrow 34-32 margin, rebounding from a 51-44 first round loss to Graford. As of Monday, Hamilton sat in fourth place in the District 11-2A standings with a 4-3 record behind 5-3 Graford, 6-2 Hico and 7-0 Lipan. Santo was still in the mix at 4-4, trailed by 1-7 DeLeon and 0-8 Poolville. Last Friday, the Lady Dogs left no stone unturned in proving they belong in the upper echelon of teams competing for one of the four playoff spots available in District 11. Graford was simply left scratching their heads. 11 Lady Bulldogs added to Hamilton’s 67-point tally, and junior guard A.J. Arledge led the overwhelming 40-point drubbing of the Lady Rabbits with 23 points scored, including five three pointers, four of five shooting from the charity stripe and an additional two buckets. In all, the Lady Dogs connected 11 times from behind the three-point arc, including five by Arledge, two by Kate Lengefeld and one apiece by Addison Massingill, Piper Hanson, Anna Claire Cooper and Harper Lengefeld. Hanson ended the night with eight points scored, including three of four shooting from the free throw line, and was followed by Anna Pearcy and Kate Lengefeld with six apiece. Harper Lengefeld splashed five on the board with a three-pointer and a two-point bucket, and Emery Parrott echoed that effort with five points on three of four free throw shooting and a two-point field goal. Henlee Wagner banged the boards for four, trailed by Massingill and Cooper with three, and Presley Pearce and Kayla Tawater with two apiece. Senior Laney Lane led the team in defensive takeaways. Next up, the Lady Bulldogs were scheduled to host DeLeon as heavy favorites on Tuesday before traveling to face Poolville on Friday at 6:15 p.m., again as clear frontrunners. Hamilton defeated DeLeon 73-27 in the first round and Poolville by a 69-14 margin. On Tuesday of next week at 6:15 p.m. in Hamilton, the Lady Dogs will attempt to avenge a first round 61-47 road-loss to district leader Lipan.
