Equipped with a deep 12-member roster, the Chris Arledge led Lady Bulldogs dropped the pedal to the metal with a 71-43 season opening home victory over Millsap last Thursday. Hamilton’s junior varsity Lady Bulldogs also tipped off the season with a decisive 59-3 victory over Millsap.

Evant, J-boro nab Dist. 161A V-ball nods as gridiron squads defy 6-man odds

The highly touted Evant Lady Elks completed another memorable regional quarterfinal volleyball title run after falling to Saint Jo in a regional semifinal match in Midlothian last Friday by scores of 25-17, 25-17 and 25-19. The Lady Elks were undefeated District 16-1A champions this year, earning a pair of victories over each of their district foes to include second-placed Jonesboro, third-placed Oglesby and fourth-placed Lometa. Receiving a bi-district bye, the Lady Elks proceeded to knock off Gustine in three decisive area-round sets before bouncing Lingleville from the regional quarterfinals in Comanche on Tuesday of last week by scores of 25-18, 25-9 and 25-15 in three sweeping games.
