Following a shortened pre-district schedule in which the varsity Bulldogs went 4-1 and claimed a Winters Tournament title, the Dogs plunged directly into the meaty portion of the District 11-2A schedule last week with a game in Poolville versus the top 10-ranked Monarchs followed by a home game on Friday versus the number one-ranked Lipan Indians. Despite a team-leading 10 points scored by freshman guard Madden Weaver and a nine-point effort by senior Grant Bauman, the Bulldogs fell in Poolville 53-44. Dixon Kellner threaded the net for seven, followed by Ben Ivey and Pierce Summers with six apiece. Colter Johnson banged the boards down low for four, and Halston Haile tagged a two-pointer. On Friday in Hamilton, the Lipan Indians made a compelling case for their top billing in all of 2A as they proceeded to stamp a 76-36 victory over the Bulldogs. Kellner knocked down 14 points for the Dogs, including a pair of field goals from beyond 20 feet. Weaver traced a traditional six points with a trio of two-point buckets, and Grant Bauman banked six with two long range shots from beyond the arc. Bret Bauman added five to the books, followed by Haile and Johnson with two apiece and Ivey with a free throw. Hamilton opened district competition with a decisive 57-36 victory over DeLeon and entered this week at 5-3 overall and 1-2 in district. The Dogs were aiming to reverse course this week with a game in Santo scheduled for Tuesday and a home game versus Hico on the docket for this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
After dunking Poolville on the road 61-13 on Tuesday of last week, the varsity Lady Bulldogs returned home and dropped their first district contest of the season to seventh-ranked Lipan by a score of 47-28.
