Hamilton High School Band member Myles Henkes counts his rests when the band played for the Hamilton Community Center hamburger lunch Friday. The next day, the band competed in Stephenville and qualified for area competition. Band Director Tim Edins said this is the first time they have qualified since 2009. Area contest will be Saturday, and Hamilton will perform at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are available online only at gofan.co (search for Area B UIL). Hamilton is one of 11 bands in our area that advanced after receiving straight ones from all three judges Saturday. The day after area, Oct. 26, the band will host its annual Fall Festival at the high school. Katy Bottlinger is assistant band director, and Marissa Salley is the flag corps sponsor. The Hamilton flag corps was named top 2A corps in preliminary competition two weeks ago.

STATE BOUND REGION 2-2A CHAMPS: The varsity Lady Bulldog cross country team, pictured above the mast, claimed a UIL Region 2-2A Cross Country Championship on Tuesday in Arlington and will travel to Round Rock on Saturday, Nov. 1, to pursue a fourth consecutive and 10th all-time state title. More on page 1B. Over the past couple of months, a group of local adults have been meeting and praying about starting a local chapter of Young Life in Hamilton.
