Hamilton has at least 16 Texas Historical Markers. From these markers, I have learned that early Hamiltonians were tough and had to fight Indians. A lot of places burned, which meant a lot of history was lost. My greatgreat-great-grandparents might have come to Hamilton because of letters written by Elise Waerenskjold.

The holiday weekend was fun, fun, fun in Hamilton! Saturday featured lawn mower races by the Lone Star Mower Racing Association, with members showing up from Madisonville, College Station, Bryan, Longview, Concho County, San Angelo and Houston to try out the mud in the Keith Curry Arena at Fair Park. There was also cornhole competition, bounce houses and a street taco cookoff. Sunday, the fun moved to Pecan Creek Park for bounce houses, free hot dogs, music by Branded Heart and fabulous fireworks. And Monday, several members of the community read the Declaration of Independence in the rain on the courthouse steps. Staff Photos
