An 18-year-old brunette from Tyler waited anxiously with nine other finalists for the winner of the “Miss America” beauty pageant to be announced on Sep. 12, 1942.

The 49th Hamilton County Dove Festival sponsored by Focused Care was a big success on Saturday with throngs enjoying the run, parade, dunking booth, diaper derby, pet show, inflatables, vendors, musical entertainment and more.

Hamilton Civic Theatre’s presentation of “Last Round-Up of the Guacamole Queens” will open Saturday at the Ross Street Theater.

Twenty years after the terror attacks on America, Hamilton will commemorate the date with a ceremony and bell ringing coordinated by American Legion Post #222 at 10 a.m. Saturday at the courthouse.

TENNIS COURT RENOVATION – Friends of Hamilton ISD pledges $55,000 toward the renovations of the old tennis courts this year. The two tennis courts behind the current Ann Whitney Elementary playground are being cleaned and prepped for a layer of padding and turf. Once renovated, the facility will provide a place for recess, PE classes, outdoor classroom setting, award ceremonies and community use, like sports practices, and ceremonies. The turf can be lined in several different ways, such as soccer or football field, 4 square or hopscotch. The walls of the court can be equipped with other interactive activities for students including a rock-climbing wall. Ann Whitney Elementary Principal James Slone cleaned the wall and the old rock gym as well.
