A death-defying air show on Nov. 19, 1911 inspired a Midland blacksmith to plunge ahead with his bold plan to conquer the clouds. By no means the first Texan to get hooked on flying, John Pliska would certainly not be the last.

ENGAGED- Derek and Tina Dittrich of Hamiton are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Shelby Dittrich, to John Bennett, son of John and Jeanie Bennett of Pasadena, California. John is graduating in December with a PhD in Plant Pathology from Texas A&M University. Shelby is currently working as an architect for BRW Architecture in College Station, Texas. A December wedding is planned.

NHS INDUCTION-Twenty Hamilton High School juniors were inducted into the National Honor Society Virgil M. Santy Chapter Monday evening in the Chandler Craig Auditorium. Senior members received their graduation cords at the ceremony.
