Hi Maria,

With the warming temperatures, greening grasses and budding trees, many of us will want to end our winter hibernation by doing some home improvement projects. This is when our motivation is high and we want to tackle the big things like installing a new roof or rain gutters or having our trees trimmed or our driveway repaved.

Dear Gardeners Mailbag, I have received an unbelievable number of questions about winter damage following the February cold spell. This week’s column will focus on the most common question “our live oaks turned grey/brown with all the cold.” First step everyone take a deep breath; count to 10 and repeat. Your live oaks will be ok.

In a long letter dated Mar. 4, 1981, Paul “Bear” Bryant, former head football coach at Texas A&M, apologized to Kenneth Hall for squandering his gridiron gift in the 1950s.

Last week’s frigid temperatures, coupled with the loss of power for prolonged periods for many of us, increased awareness of that humblest appliance, the water heater.

Following the cancellation of their initial two scheduled tournaments due to weather, the Hamilton Bulldog tennis team traveled to Waco for their first tournament of the year on Wednesday of last week.
