Mattie Jo Lawson was born Aug. 9, 1931, in Hamilton. She passed away at the age of 91 on Aug. 20, 2022, in Mesquite. Jo graduated from Hamilton High School in 1949. After graduation she attended Abilene Christian College, now known as Abilene Christian University. Jo taught sixth and seventh grade math for 30 years at Victor H. Hexter Elementary and Martha Turner Riley Elementary in Dallas. Fifty years later her great-grandnieces attended Victor H. Hexter Elementary as students. Jo is preceded in death by her father, William P. Lawson; her mother, Martha Johanna Lawson; brother William C. Lawson; sister Mavis Fink; brother-in-law Leo Fink; sister- in-law Merle Lawson; niece Linda Fink; nephew Alan Fink; nephew by mar- riage Bob Gautier; and her dear friend who was like a sister, Nan Howard.

Mesa, at FM 22 East, Hamilton, with Pastor Aaron Kalbas officiating. Additionally, a luncheon will be held Aug. 23 at the Pflugerville Lions Club, 500 Railroad Ave. North, Pflugerville, starting at 10 a.m. Also, John requested that his family and friends have a celebration later in the fall (when it’s cooler) in the Schoedel Barn, to get together and share stories and laughs – details to follow.
