Graveside services for Robert Vernon Houts were held on Sept. 25 at Cottage Hill Cemetery, near Shive.
Vernon passed away on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2026 at the age of 89. Arrangements are under the direction of Stacy- Wilkins Funeral Home in Goldthwaite.
He was born on Sept. 24th near Snyder, Oklahoma, to R.V. & Connie Houts. He was raised near Raymondville, where he graduated from High School in 1954, and then graduated from Abilene Christian College in 1959. Vernon moved back to Raymondville and taught school in Raymondville and Lyford for 34 years. While teaching, he was also a professional photographer after school and on weekends, and an active member of the Raymondville Volunteer Fire Department for 28 years. After retiring, he moved to Hamilton in 2005 and became a member of the Evant Church of Christ.
Vernon married Linda Kay Stone on Feb. 14, 1957, in Abilene, and they were married for 69 years. While retired, they moved to Hamilton, traveled all 50 states and had a fulfilling life together.
Vernon was preceded in death by his Father, R.V. Houts; his Mother, Connie Houts; his Sister, Barbara June Schreiner; his Son-inlaw, Rich Everett; and his Grandson, Tyler Maxwell.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Kay Houts; his daughter, Cheryl Everett; his son, Robby, and wife Rachel Houts. Also included are his grandchildren, Kendal Maxwell and fiancé Jacob Jackson, Jessica Ramon and husband Austin Ramon and Julia Houts; six great-grandchildren, Brady Maxwell, Luke, Jamee, Jayden, Gabriel, and soon-to-arrive Amelia Ramon; also, one sister, Janell Hall and one brother, Curtis Houts.
