Jeffrey Keith “Jeff” Pettit

Nov. 7, 1971–Sept. 24, 2026 Jeffrey Keith “Jeff” Pettit, 54, passed away on Sept. 24, 2026, leaving behind a family and many friends who loved him deeply and will miss him greatly. He was a resident of the Pettit Community near Gustine.

Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Gustine on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 12 p.m. Jeff was born Nov. 7, 1971, to James Keith “Jack” Pettit and Willie Fern Pettit, both of whom preceded him in death. Jeff was a rancher in every sense of the word. From an early age, he grew up around cattle and learned the hard work, rewards, and challenges that come with life on the land. He was the owner of Pettit Cattle Company, carrying forward a way of life that was deeply woven into who he was. Jeff loved the land, loved his livestock, and took pride in the work of ranching. For Jeff, ranching was not simply what he did; it was who he was. Those who knew Jeff well knew that he was tough as boot leather, but underneath that toughness was a remarkably soft heart. He was loyal, kind, and a friend to many. Jeff formed friendships that lasted a lifetime.

Above all, Jeff was a loving father. His children, Brittany Fern Miles (Pettit) and Blake Keith Pettit, were the greatest loves of his life. He was incredibly proud of them and loved them deeply. Jeff was also a devoted son. As his parents grew older, and despite his own health issues, he was there for them, caring for them and helping look after them. He gave back to the parents who had given so much to him, remaining a loving and devoted son throughout their later years. He honored them by being there when they needed him most.

Jeff was a man of faith and a believer in Jesus Christ. His faith was an important part of his life. He saw life through a simple lens, guided by his faith and his love of family. Jeff shared a lifelong bond with his younger brother, Jason Pettit. The two grew up together around cattle and ranch life and remained close throughout their lives. Their shared love of ranching and the land was part of a family tradition that began long before them and continued throughout Jeff’s life.

Jeff was also a loving uncle to his nephews, Will Pettit and Weston Pettit, and a proud great-uncle to Braxton. He loved watching his family grow and cherished the time he spent with them.

Jeff and his former wife, Mary Pettit (Pack), remained good friends until the end. Their continued friendship reflected the lasting care and respect they had for one another.

Jeff also shared a special bond with Yvette Pettit, his sister-in-law. He loved Yvette dearly, and she held a special place in his heart. Their relationship was one of genuine affection, laughter, and family. Jeff is survived by his children, Brittany Fern Miles (Pettit) and Blake Keith Pettit; former wife, Mary Pettit (Pack); brother, Jason Pettit, and wife, Yvette; his nephews, Will Pettit and Weston Pettit; and his great-nephew, Braxton, along with many other family members and dear friends who loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Keith “Jack” Pettit and Willie Fern Pettit, and his son-in-law, Mackenzie Drake Miles.

Jeff left this world far too soon. He leaves behind more than the ranch, the cattle, and the work of his hands. He leaves behind a family who loved him, children who will carry his memory forward, friends who were blessed to know him, and a lifetime of memories made on the land he loved.

Jeff will be remembered for his love of his family, devotion to ranching, his faith, hard work, his friendships, and the tender heart that existed beneath his tough exterior.

He was deeply loved. He will be deeply missed. And the memory of Jeff Pettit will remain with all who were fortunate enough to call him family or friend.
