RED-HANDED: Those in attendance at Hamilton's first home football game last Friday night noticed the reappearance of the 'angry red dot' perched high on the grain silo north of Kooken Field. A pair of Hamilton's most talented graffiti artists, including Hamilton High School Class of 1988 alum Darrell Wagner and 1986 graduate David Melde, were caught red-handed last week painting the 8-foot diameter red dot, with permission of course by the silo's owner, HHS Class of 1977 alum Charlie Bottlinger. Kevin Gilmore, Class of 1981, remembers Coach Red Martin introducing the 'angry red dot' as a sign of Bulldog pride during the 1980 football season. 'There were red dots everywhere,' remembers Wagner. 'I remember kids taking hole punches and spreading them all over school.' Gilmore's classmates, Greg Hutto and Phil Latham were responsible for painting the original dot as high school students, and prior to its latest restoration in honor of the 2026 senior class, 1988 graduate Holly (May) Lawson revived and reintroduced the painting in the fall of 2010 for the graduating class of 2011. Pictured, Melde gladly takes the controls while firmly on the ground as Wagner, his trusting friend, takes a ride in the bucket equipped with red paint. Photos by Grant Lengefeld
