If there was ever a time to be proud of Hamilton, the Hamilton Dove Festival weekend was it. The organization and planning from the Chamber of Commerce Board, other boards who assisted, all the volunteers and our corporate sponsors, put together what has to be the largest and most successful Hamilton Dove Festival ever.

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is kicking off September with the “Cooking Well with Diabetes” series of classes at 101 E. Henry St. in the second-floor conference room Classes will be held Thursdays, Sept. 5, 12, 19 and 26 at 10 a.m.

Plans are already underway for the famous Norse Church Norwegian Smorgasbord to be served this year on Nov. 9.

AUSTIN — A rainy spring and early summer led to a good nesting season through most of the state and near record high populations of mourning and white-wing doves across large portions of Texas. Hunters could encounter significantly increased dove populations in the 2024 season, which opened Sunday.

Texas hunters headed out for dove season are asked to watch for abandoned or deteriorated water wells and to report any they find to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
