CELEBRATING FAMILY LAND HERITAGE – Jerome and Alice Pietzsch, owners of the J and A Pietzsch Ranch in Pottsville, were recognized for 100 years of Family Land Heritage from the Texas Department of Agriculture. The FLH program recognizes families who have owned and operated a continuous agricultural operation for 100 years or more. A 110-acre farm, J and A Pietzsch Ranch was founded in 1920 by Jerome’s parents, Gustave and Emma Pietzsch. Originally, the family raised horses, cows, sheep, hogs, chickens and turkeys. They fed the family from a big garden, an orchard and farmed cotton, oats and corn. When Jerome and Alice acquired the title in 1971, they raised small grain milo before putting the cropland into improved pastures to raise registered Limousin cattle. Jerome and Alice have four children: Patricia Ann, Deborah Gail, Rebecca Valencia and Gary Wayne. In 2009, the family was honored with the 100- year Family Land Heritage award for their 137-acre ranch and homeplace purchased by Herman and Karolina Eilers, Jerome’s grandparents.
