Teck Newton

On April 14, 2023, Teck O’Dell Newton went to be with the Lord.

A graveside service was held Monday in the Eastview (Newton Family) Cemetery.

He was born in Mills County on May 10, 1937, to Kelton K.K. Newton and Sallie R. Miles Newton. He was the fourth born of six children. He was raised on the family farm and ranch, where he learned to repair just about anything mechanical.

Teck loved to tell tall tales and he was good at it. He was so good, the numerous nieces and nephews never knew what was true and was not true. The stories grew more impressive with each telling.

He was always doing special things for his nieces and nephews like fixing the tree swing when they all came to visit. Teck loved people, he loved to talk, and he never met a stranger. He never forgot a name either.

He spent many long hours in his bedroom researching his family’s history. He filled over 50 pages of typing with one finger. He complied a historical account of the Newton family’s tree and history. What a wonderful gift he leaves behind.

Teck was married later in life to Joyce Marie Harrington on March 8, 1991. He enjoyed his time as a spouse and father to her children.

Teck is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Melvin Newton; a sister, Oleta Hahn; and his wife, Joyce.

He leaves behind two sisters and a brother, Virginia Tompkins and Betty Newton, both of Henderson, and Ray and wife Laveda Newton of Houston; several nieces and nephews, Jeannie, Ronnie, Deborah, Randel, Donna, Cherry, Danny, Barbie, David and Tim.

The family rejoices in the fact that he is now celebrating in Heaven.
