Jack Walton

Sherman Louis Walton Jr., 71, better known as Jack or Jackie to his friends and family, passed away Jan. 2, 2021, from complications of a long hard battle with cancer.

A celebration of life was set for Wednesday, Jan. 6, at 2 p.m. at Riley Funeral Home in Hamilton, followed by a potluck at Hamilton Commission Co. after the service. He was to be buried next to his parents and grandparents in Devine Evergreen Cemetery, Devine, on Thursday at 1 p.m.

He was born Oct. 4, 1949, in Castroville to Sherman and Edith Walton. He was raised in the Castroville area and graduated from Medina Valley High School in 1968.

He was drafted into the army in 1969 where he was a gun truck driver.

When he returned, he hadn’t forgotten his love of livestock and began the art of buying, selling and raising domestic and exotic livestock, which he continued until the day he passed. You would never know what he would bring home from a sale.

He loved God and his family first, his friends and especially his sale barn family and friends that he knew for more than 35 years.

He was living in Carlton at the time of passing. This man worked harder at 71 than any man in his 20s, 30s and 40s could ever even think of working. He was up on top of a shed the day before putting a roof and sides on it so his animals would have more shelter from the coming storm.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman and Edith Walton.

He leaves behind his wife Tracey; children Schae, Shawn and Misty; grandchildren Zane, Dylan, Dalton and Kayla; sister Cindy Cowan and husband Michael; niece Loren and husband Michael; nephew Cody; an aunt; and several cousins.
