Doreen Holmstrom

Doreen Rosalie Witschorke Holmstrom, 92, joined her dancing partner in heaven on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019.

A visitation will be held at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor, 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20. A funeral will be held at Hutto Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. Thursday with burial following in Hutto Lutheran Cemetery.

Mrs. Holmstrom was the oldest of three children, and only daughter, born to Oswald Wilhelm “Willie” Witschorke and Erna Katherine Naundorf Witchorke Nov. 19, 1926, in Washington County.

She was baptized Jan. 23, 1927, at St. John’s Evangelical Reformed Church in Burton and was confirmed and took her first communion March 17, 1940, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shive.

Doreen married the love of her life and her husband of 60 years, Ansel Berthren Holmstrom, on June 14, 1952, at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Austin. The couple lived in Granger until they moved to Jonah in 1962. They had two children, Carlette Etheleen Holmstrom and Gary Ansel Holmstrom, who died in infancy.  

Mrs. Holmstrom was a graduate of Shive High School and attended Durhams Business College. She was employed as a bookkeeper by the Texas Industrial Co. of Austin prior to marrying.

Once she and Ansel married, she used her bookkeeping skills as she managed accounts and supported Ansel in their farming endeavors.

Doreen had an incredible strength of faith and was the epitome of devotion to her husband, family, friends and home. She was an excellent seamstress, outstanding cook and consummate friend.

Ansel and Doreen enjoyed spending time with family, visiting with friends, dancing, listening to music and playing dominoes.  She took great pride in her family, especially her great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ansel; parents Willie and Erna; infant son Gary; brother Billiegene Witschorke and brother and sister-in-law, Hartwin and Jean Holmstrom.

She leaves behind her daughter, Carlette Holmstrom Litterst and husband Mike; granddaughters Dana Schlabach Sitton and husband James of Katy and Cara Schlabach Westerman and husband John of Friendswood; great-grandchildren Hunter Sitton, Hayden Sitton, Haddison Sitton, Preston Westerman, and Joshua Westerman; brother and sister-in-law Larry Wayne and Kathryn Witschorke; nephews Dr. John Holmstrom and wife Linda Welch, Carl Holmstrom and wife Susan, Bert Holmstrom and wife Sona, Scott Witschorke, Mark Witschorke and wife Shelly and David Witschorke and wife Shelia; niece Deidra Witschorke; great-nieces and nephews Ashly Holmstrom Wilson and husband Justin, Tiffany Holmstrom Pullen and husband Matt, Dr. Lindsey Holmstrom, Kristen Holmstrom Johnson and husband Adam, Alison Holmstrom Wallace and husband Tyler, Travis Holmstrom and wife Meredith, Weston Holmstrom and wife Sarah, Kathryn Witschorke Burton, Zakry Witschorke, William Witschorke and Matthew Witschorke; numerous great-grand nephews and nieces, cousins and friends.

Memorials may be made in Doreen’s name to Hutto Lutheran Church or charity of choice.
