Danny Phillips

Danny J. Phillips, 87, of Hamilton passed away on Sept. 4, 2023.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m. in Mitchell Cemetery, Iredell.

Danny was born Feb. 13, 1936, in Iredell to Kenneth “Asher” and Gladys Taylor Phillips.

He attended Iredell High School where he was proud to be a Dragon and wear the colors of gold and white. After high school, he joined the Army and was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska, as a firefighter. Danny loved his time in Alaska and would speak often of his time there.

After leaving the Army, he attended Tarleton University and then transferred and graduated from Texas Tech with a degree in soil conservation.

After graduation, he married, settled in Hamilton, had two daughters and started working at Hamilton REA and later for Erath County Co-op in Stephenville until he retired.

He enjoyed sports, horses, rodeo and just being in the country. He especially loved supporting his alma mater by attending football and basketball games for the Iredell Dragons while he was still able and not missing a Texas Tech Red Raider game on TV. He never missed one of his daughters’ games and was always ready to give some advice on how to be better.

His love for horses and rodeo kept him and his family busy around the house caring for, riding and preparing for those weekend playdays, playnights or rodeos. He spent most of his spare time at the family farm where he grew up. He liked to work with cattle and help his Uncle Wilson.

He was also a man who loved his Chips Ahoy and Blue Bell ice cream!

He is survived by his daughters, Lanai Little of Alabama; Leslie Milton (Todd) and grandson Chandler Milton of Troy; brother Dale Phillips and wife Martha of Denton; and several nieces and nephews.
