REGIONAL RACERS: Crossing the regional finish line in Arlington just in time for publication deadline, the varsity Lady Bulldog cross country team took another step closer in pursuit of their fourth consecutive and tenth all-time state title on Tuesday. Hamilton’s Lady Bulldogs claimed a dominant UIL Region 2-2A Championship with a team tally of 20 points, placing first among the region’s top 22 teams. Second-placed Cisco finished 109 points behind the title-grabbing Lady Dogs with a score of 129, followed by Hico and Santo with 192 points apiece and fifth-placed Stamford with a score of 193. Chaska Downs paced the entire field of 174 individual regional competitors, traversing the Harold Patterson Sports Complex two-mile course in a winning time of 12:07.2. Anna Pearcy claimed an individual regional bronze medal, followed by Presley Long fourth, Kate Lengefeld seventh, Kaitlyn Walton ninth, Emma Ensor 15th and freshman Landry Gardner 32nd. Representing the Bulldogs, Nabi Downs placed 50th individually among the region’s top 172 runners, and senior Morgan Henkes crossed the finish line in 55th position. FLYING TO STATE: The Jonesboro Lady Eagles placed fourth at regionals on Monday and qualified to compete in the 1A UIL State Cross Country Championships to be held at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock.
