Letter to the Editor: On December 2, 2023 we received a phone call our home was on fire. Naturally the feelings of sheer panic came over us all on our ride back from basketball in DeLeon. As we pull down our dirt road the sight of smoke confirmed it was real. When we pulled into our drive, we saw what we thought was our all burning to the ground. What a sense of shock your mind goes into as you recall all your precious items inherited or purchased all with sentimental value. Sadness and grief overtake you. A loss of the place you call home. Where memories have been made, laughter has rung through each wall, tears have been shed, babies have been rocked, kids have turned to teens, so many milestones under one roof. The grief consumes you even though you know it’s just stuff. This stuff to us meant so much more, precious reminders of friends, family, and joy. Yet, through all our loss we have gained so much.
