Nathaniel (Sonny) Foote Jr., 81, of Turnersville, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2019, at his home.

Funeral services were held Aug. 10, at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jon Crosby and Rev. Matt Dossey officiating. Burial was in Turnersville Cemetery.

Mr. Foote was born Aug. 15, 1937, at home, which was the same home-place where he passed away. He was the son of Nathaniel (Mud) Foote Sr. and Mabel Pancake Foote. As a child, he joined the Unity Presbyterian Church in Turnersville. He attended school at Turnersville, graduating from Turnersville High School in 1955. He attended Texas A&M University but returned home to help his mother farm and ranch.

As a young man, he enjoyed water skiing and fishing with his friends. He joined the Texas Army National Guard and was called to active duty with the 949th Division at Fort Polk, Louisiana.

He married Paula Lightsey Aug. 14, 1965. They worked together, raising their sons, farming and ranching for 54 happy years.

As a farmer and rancher, he was a board member in numerous organizations: the ASCS Committee, Hamilton-Coryell Soil and Water Conservation District, Coryell County Farm Bureau and Federal Land Bank in Waco. He was also a member and former director of the Heart of Texas Electric Coop, trustee of Turnersville Cemetery Association and member of the Turnersville Presbyterian Church board. He worked to help fellow farmers and made many life-long friends. He also enjoyed working with the youth of his community by serving on the Coryell County Fair Board, where he helped to build the Coryell County Activities Complex. Sonny was a member of the Turnersville Baptist Church and Gatesville Masonic Lodge #197 A.F. & A.M.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Frances Cornelia Foote.

Survivors include his wife, Paula Foote; sons Than Foote and wife Traci and Joe Foote and wife Crystal; five grandchildren, Hallie Foote, Wade Foote, Bracy Foote, Truett Foote and Pate Foote.

Sonny loved his Lord, family, friends and the Foote Farm and Ranch, where he resided all of his life. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and community.
