Sheron Self Kenton, 79, died peacefully at home with her family on Wednesday, April 21, 2021.

Funeral services were Monday, April 26, in the chapel at Riley Funeral Home with Jim Hall of Gatesville Church of Christ officiating.

Sheron was born Jan. 17, 1942, in San Angelo to Bob and Faye Self. In 1951, her family moved to Stephenville, where her parents established Self Boot Shop just off the square in Stephenville. She graduated from Stephenville High School in 1960 and attended Tarleton State for two years before transferring to North Texas State in Denton. She graduated in May of 1963 with a degree in Business Education.

On June 14, 1963, she married James Lyle Kenton, and three days later they moved to San Antonio, where she accepted a position as a middle school teacher at Eisenhower Middle School. She worked as a teacher for four months before becoming pregnant with Kelly Lynn.

While Kelly was in preschool, she worked for Durham Business School where she taught typing, shorthand and keypunch.

Jim and Sheron had two more children, Kelene, and Phil while living in Memphis, Tennessee. They were happily married for nearly 58 years.

Through the years, Jim and Sheron moved to Memphis, Richardson, Placentia, California, and Plano before finally retiring to Hamilton.

She was involved with her church, Ladies Bible Class, Girls Scouts with Kelly and Kelene, and loved sewing and crafting.

She enjoyed playing cards and tennis and camping with family and friends. While living in Plano, she worked for ServiceMaster, which later became NorthStar Paper Co., where she was the office manager for 18 years.

Her family and friends will always remember her as a smart, independent woman who loved and supported her husband in all his endeavors and was a strong partner with him in his career.

She is preceded in death by her father, Robert (Bob) Andrew Self Jr., and mother, Jessie Faye Self.

Sheron is survived by her husband, James Lyle Kenton of Hamilton; their three children, Kelly Lynn Chacon and husband Jose Chacon of Allen, Kelene Curry and husband Michael Curry of McKinney and Phillip Lyle Kenton of Melissa; eight grandchildren, McKenzie Newman and husband Connor Newman of Dallas, Brody Curry of McKinney, Caitlin Kenton, Elisa Chacon, Caleb Chacon, Regan Kenton and Isabella Kenton of Allen and Carly Jo Wright of Glen Rose; two brothers, Robert Andrew Self III and wife Donna Self of Hamilton and David Mark Self and wife Linda Miller of Estero, Florida; and nieces and nephews Penny, Rob, Lindsey and Mark.

The family would like to thank all family and friends for their love and support for our wife and mother who loved deeply.
