Ricky Payne

Ricky Bob Payne, 64, of Cranfills Gap passed away Aug. 10, 2021, in his home after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Rick was born Aug. 1, 1957, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He graduated from Cranfills Gap High School in 1975.

Rick enjoyed spending time with his wife Kathy of 34 years, his son, Tye Adams and his wife Hannah and grandsons Blade and Tate of Springtown, his daughter Breanne Turner, husband Robert and grandchildren Emerson, Easton and Paxton of Copperas Cove, and his daughter, Kristen Payne and granddaughter Auden Payne of Fairfield.

Rick’s happiest moments were spent with his family, especially his six grandchildren who so lovingly called him “Poppy.”

People who worked alongside Rick over the years will say that he was the hardest working man they had ever known and had the pleasure to work with. He will always be remembered for his love and care for others.

Rick was preceded in death by his father, Milton Payne; brother Rusty Payne; sister Debbie Payne Brewer; beloved nieces Niki Carlson and Lexie Finstad; dear friend Gary Tyson; and his grandparents.

He is survived by his mother, Jayne Payne of Hamilton; stepmother Ann Payne of Merkel; siblings Sandi and Owen Carlson of Cranfills Gap, Tami and Greg Ashley of Lorena, DeeDee and Gary Meier of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Jamie and Tracy Payne of Llano, Debbie Payne of Hamilton and Chelsea Payne of Merkel; also brother and sister-in-law Bob (deceased) and Shellie Cornelius, Martha and Dwight (deceased) Landua, and Jerry and Joan Cornelius, whom Rick loved like brothers and sisters.

He will be missed by many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
