Services for Minerva Thomas, 90, of Hamilton were held Dec. 20 at First United Methodist Church of Hamilton officiated by the Rev. Samantha Chambers. Interment followed in Oakwood Cemetery.

Minerva Helen Knudson Thomas was born Jan.  20, 1929, in Cranfills Gap to Axel T. and Minnie Pederson Knudson.  She passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2019, at Hamilton General Hospital after a brief illness.

Minerva graduated from Cranfills Gap High School.

On March 28,  1947, she married Richard Eugene Thomas of Jonesboro.  After residing in Texas City for a short period, they moved to Hamilton where she and Richard raised their family.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hamilton for almost 70 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and by Richard, her husband of 56 years; brothers Jodie Knudson, Morris Knudson, Roy Knudson, Allie Knudson and Wendell “Pete” Knudson; and sisters Alice Jewel Knudson, Rudelle Knudson Leeth and Imogene Knudson Miller.

Minerva is survived by three sons, Dennis Thomas, Don Thomas and wife Jeanine, Darrell Thomas and wife Priscilla; seven grandchildren, Brandon Thomas, Chelsea Whittle, Averi Snow, Reagan Thomas, Caroline Daniels, Allison Thomas and Sarah Grace Thomas; three great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Gary Babbitt, Bill Miller, Bob Miller, Charlie Porter, Brandon Thomas and Reagan Thomas.

Minerva’s family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the staff of Focused Care and Hamilton General Hospital for their excellent care of her. The family also wants to extend deepest gratitude to Dr. James R. “Randy” Lee for his compassionate care of Minerva.
