Harold was born to Rudolph and Olga Hielscher Reich on Nov. 9, 1929. in Cisco. He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Cisco. He went to Christ Lutheran parochial school through the seventh grade and graduated from Cisco High School.

He met the love of his life and married Vernell Joyce Symm on July 9, 1961, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Waco. They were married for 60 years this past July. They had four children, Linda Kay, Marshall John, who died at birth, and twins Jeanine Joyce and Keith Allan.

Harold served in the national guard and worked for Ford Motor Co., owned a mechanic shop and Western Auto Store and served on the Cisco school board. He enjoyed spending time on the family farm tending to his cows, chickens and especially his sheep. He recently told us that he thought the key to happiness was, “When you pick your work you should love it so much that you wonder why they are paying you.”

Throughout his entire life he was faithful to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was active in the Walther League into his twenties. He was a member of Christ/ Redeemer Lutheran Church of Cisco all his life until he moved to Hamilton. He was currently a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Hamilton. He served in many church roles from lawn keeper, to usher, to treasurer, to elder.

He recently said his wish for his grandchildren is that “they remain with God and always keep Christ in their midst.”
