Gerlind Dean

Maria Gerlind Johanna Katharina Lossow Dean, 95, passed away Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, at Lavender Ridge in Olney, Illinois.

Gerlind was born in Breslau, Germany, the daughter of Architect Wilhelm Hermann Gustav Lossow and Maria Hertha Lucie Gabriele Lossow, Countess von Salburg of Altenhof, Austria. She studied agriculture in Austria, and after World War II worked as a translator for the armed forces where she met Lt. Kenneth Wayne Jones. They married in Germany and moved to the Chicago area, where they later welcomed a daughter, Barbara.

Gerlind worked as an Import and Export Manager at G.D. Searle.

She later married Arthur Fuller Dean and they eventually retired to Green Lake, Wisconsin, where Gerlind thrived in the snowy winters and sunny summers on the lake. She was an avid gardener at home as well as volunteered with the gardening club at the American Baptist Assembly. She was also an active volunteer with hospice and the public library and was a member of the Lutheran Church.

Gerlind is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Charles) Roberts of Olney, Illinois; grandchildren Catherine (Dr. John) Parks of Hamilton, Suzanne Roberts of Chicago and Christina (Bryan) Kapicka of Chicago; and great-grandson Pierce Parks of Hamilton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Gottard Heinrich Lossow and Hubertus Max Lossow, and step-son Randall Dean.
