After high school she began a career with the phone company in Hamilton where she worked as an operator. Dot married Charles Bailey Wilcox in 1956 at Littleville Baptist Church. Over the years, the couple resided in Denton, Pecos, Pacific Grove, California, Olympia, Washington, Burkburnett, Killeen and Belton before moving to Tucumcari, New Mexico, in 1977. Dot and her family lived there for 16 years before returning to Hamilton upon retirement.

Dot and Charles then spent 15 years in Ruidoso, New Mexico, to be close to their grandchildren. In 2016, they returned to Hamilton.

Dot dedicated her life to her family as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind beautiful memories, admiration and appreciation. She continually instilled in her family the importance of treating others well and putting their needs first. Dot loved to provide wonderful meals and good times to all who came to visit. She was a friend and neighbor to many and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Dot enjoyed cooking, reading, studying genealogy, camping and collectibles and antiques.
