Dan Massingill, 86, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2019, in Waxahachie.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, in Comanche at Oakwood Cemetery with Tim Mangrum officiating. Comanche Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on Mother’s Day, May 8, 1932, in Comanche to Richard “Dick” and Bessie (Shafer) Massingill. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law and uncle.

On Nov. 24, 1960, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Martha Lejuene Bowen Massingill. She preceded him in death after 52 years of marriage. He bravely enlisted in the U.S. Navy and then became a school teacher.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard “Dick” and Bessie Schafer Massingill, and four siblings, George Massingill, Dixie Roberts, Virginia Gipson and Dudley Massingill.

He is survived by his son, Travis and wife Vonda Massingill of Red Oak; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Dwight Griggs of Cedar Hill; three grandchildren, Kacie Suzanne Massingill of Brisbane, Australia, Kyle Marcus Massingill of Arlington, Hennesy Isabella Griggs of Cedar Hill; two sisters-in-laws, Billie Massingill of Austin and Tommie Webb Bowen of Sugar Land; six nephews, Sealy Massingill of Fort Worth, William Massingill of Austin, John Kelly Bowen of Houston, Chris Massingill of Irving, David Roberts of Brenham, Hal Roberts of Austin; four nieces, Berna Massingill of San Antonio, Julia Gipson Doan of Forney, Rhonda Bowen Jones of Sugar Land, Heidi Porter of Dallas; cousins Harold Massey of Burleson, Nan Brown of San Angelo; and numerous other cousins, grand-nephews and nieces.
