Billy Powell
Billy Loyd Powell, 81, passed away Friday, Sept. 13, 2024, at his home in Hamilton.
There will be a celebration of life for Billy at Perry Country Club Sunday, Sept. 22, from 3 to 5 p.m.
Billy did not want a funeral service, but said he would like his family and friends to get together and have one last beer for him.
Billy was born March 21, 1943, in Denton to JM and Mary Ella Powell.
He married Trish Powell of Hamilton on July 15, 1990. Billy had two children, Jeff Powell and Laurie Gandy, and one stepdaughter, Tabitha Paulson.
Billy graduated from Diamond Hill High School. He worked for TU Electric and retired in 1990 after 30 years of service.
Billy was an avid sports fan. He played fast pitch for 25 years and spent many, many hours on the golf course. He was a lifelong TCU fan and rarely missed watching the Hornfrogs on TV.
Billy enjoyed fishing with family and friends and spending time on the back porch for their afternoon “board meetings” with good friends and a cold beer.
In the past few years, he enjoyed feeding and watching the birds from his back porch. He was very proud of all his cardinals and dozens of hummingbirds.
Billy is preceded in death by his father, JM Powell, mother Mary Ella Bailey Powell, and brother, Bobby Powell.
He is survived by his loving wife, Trish Powell of Hamilton; son Jeff Powell and wife Tonya of Granbury; daughter Laurie Gandy; stepdaughter, Tabitha Paulson of Hamilton; granddaughters Hayley Short and husband Dustin of Marble Falls, and their daughter Hazel, Lauren Etheridge and husband Peter of Milsap, and their son Peter Jr. and Alaynah Paulson of Hamilton; grandsons Michael Powell and wife Lindsey of Granbury, and their children Jackson and Vivienne, Devin Powell of Katy, and his daughter Marti, Jordan Powell and wife Alisha, and their children Jameson and Greyson; brother Jerry Powell; and many great friends and family who will miss him dearly.
